Hello everyone.
I'm Teppi, a travel writer.

This is the 31st article introducing scenic spots📚
This is the first article about the Kinki region to be introduced on this website😄

I'd like to introduce you to Rokko Shidare Observatory in Kobe City !

A spectacular observation deck of contemporary art !

Rokko Shidare is an observation deck located on top of Mt. Rokko📸
It is an observation deck located on the grounds of Rokko Garden Terrace in Kobe city🌃

As you can see in the photo, Rokko Shidare Observatory has a very unique shape😳
It was designed by the famous architect Hiroshi Sambuichi, who also worked on the Orizuru Tower in Hiroshima📐

The view is outstanding, as it was newly built on the site of an old revolving observation deck✨

By the way, I visited during the New Year holidays, so there was snow on Mt. Rokko

I had the impression that Kobe was relatively warm even in winter, but it seems that the climate is different up in the mountains❄
(*The top of Mt. Rokko is about 900m above sea level🌡)

Frozen ice shelf

And one more thing that surprised me...👀
Check out the photo above !

The accumulated water is completely frozen😨
This is not water that has frozen naturally, but water that has been intentionally frozen, called an "ice shelf"🍧

The finished ice is stored in an icehouse inside the observation deck and is used as an air conditioner in the summer😊

So far I have been talking about snow, but let's finish by showing you the view from the Rokko Garden Terrace !
The view from the observation deck is of course amazing, but you can also enjoy a spectacular view from the shop terrace at Rokko Garden Terrace🤗

You can get a great view of the cityscape of Kobe at the foot of the mountain, and especially the scenery towards Osaka🏙
The photo above clearly shows Abeno Harukas, the second tallest building in Japan, as well as the cluster of skyscrapers stretching from Umeda to Nakanoshima📸

Additionally, the observation deck is located right next to the Rokko-Arima Ropeway, which takes you up the Rokko Cable and down to Arima Onsen, so it is easily accessible by public transportation🚡

Be sure to enjoy the spectacular view from the top of the mountain👍
